Our Commitment to the AAP Recommended Immunization Schedule

Our Commitment to the AAP Recommended Immunization Schedule

Protecting Every Child: Our Commitment to the Recommended Vaccine Schedule

At The Pediatric Care Center, serving families in Bristol and Southington, CT, your child’s health and safety come first. Vaccines are one of the most important tools we have to protect children from serious, sometimes life-threatening infections. Many of these illnesses still circulate in the community and can spread quickly in schools, child care settings, and busy households.

Our providers follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended immunization schedules for all patients. These schedules are based on years of research and are reviewed regularly by pediatricians, infectious-disease specialists, and public-health experts.

Why We Follow the AAP Schedule

The routine vaccine schedule is carefully timed to give protection when children need it most. Vaccines are scheduled to provide the strongest immune response and to guard against illnesses when babies, toddlers, children, and teens are most vulnerable.

  • Age-specific protection: Some infections pose the greatest risk in infancy and early childhood, so those vaccines are given early.
  • Best immune response: Research shows which ages provide the most effective and lasting protection for each vaccine.
  • Community safety: When children are vaccinated on time, they help protect newborns, classmates, and family members who may be more susceptible.

Because of this strong evidence, our team believes that the standard AAP schedule offers the safest and most effective protection for the children in our care.

Our Practice Policy on Vaccine Schedules

To provide consistent, high-quality care for every family we serve, The Pediatric Care Center has adopted the following vaccine policy:

  • We follow the AAP recommended immunization schedule for all patients.
  • We do not offer delayed or alternative vaccine schedules.
  • A medical exception may be made only when your child’s healthcare provider determines that a vaccine should be postponed or avoided due to a medical condition.

This approach allows us to:

  • Rely on the best available pediatric evidence.
  • Maintain a safe environment for infants, children with chronic conditions, and others at higher risk.
  • Reduce confusion, missed doses, and gaps in protection.

We understand that families may encounter different opinions or information about vaccines. Our role is to support you with clear, trustworthy guidance based on science and pediatric experience.

What to Expect at Well-Child Visits

Pediatrician reviewing AAP immunization schedule with parent.

Your child’s provider may:

  • Review your child’s vaccine record and discuss which vaccines are recommended.
  • Explain what each vaccine protects against and why it is given at that age.
  • Provide information on possible side effects and how to care for your child afterward.
  • Answer any questions you may have about safety, timing, or previous reactions.

If your child has a medical condition or is taking certain medications, our team will carefully consider this when planning their immunizations. In some cases, adjustments are necessary for medical reasons. These decisions are always made by your child’s healthcare provider.

If You Have Questions or Concerns

It is normal for parents to have questions about vaccines. Our team in Bristol and Southington is here to help.
